Remote patient monitoring · 2027
Ready for the 2027 RPM rule. Either way it goes.
Medicare has proposed that from 2027, remote patient monitoring is paid only when the practice’s own employed staff do the monitoring. Most RPM services are built around their own outside nurses. CareDots was built for your team to run it, and it is ready for both outcomes before the rule is even final.
Ready for both outcomes
One switch. You decide when.
If the rule goes live
Switch it on in Settings. Each team member is already marked employed or contracted, and RPM time counts only for employed staff in the monthly billing review. No new software, no migration, no new vendor.
If CMS drops it
Leave the switch off and nothing changes. Your team keeps monitoring patients and billing the way it does today.
Why it matters: a full-service RPM vendor whose own nurses do your monitoring would have to change how it works. With CareDots your practice already owns the work, the patients and the billing, so the rule works in your favour.
What CMS proposed
The work moves back to your practice.
In the CY 2027 proposed rule (July 2026), CMS proposed that RPM and RTM services count only when furnished by clinical staff employed by the billing practice, under general supervision. Practices may still buy software from vendors; the monitoring itself is done by their own people. CMS also proposed an initiating visit before monitoring starts. The final rule is expected around November 2026 and would take effect on 1 January 2027.
How CareDots is ready
Software your own team runs. Not a service that replaces them.
Employed or contracted, on every team member
Each person on the care team is marked as an employee or a contractor, once, in Settings.
One switch for the 2027 rule
Turn it on and RPM time counts only for employed staff in the monthly billing review. If CMS drops the requirement, leave it off. You’re in complete control.
Keep your device vendor
CareDots never sells or ships devices. Your vendor’s readings flow into NurseDot, and your team sees them on the patient’s chart.
Care management first
CCM, PCM, APCM and BHI run on the same team and the same patient record, so RPM is an add-on to the care you already give, not a separate program.
This page describes a proposed rule as published by CMS in July 2026; the final rule may differ. It is general information, not billing or legal advice.
